Open Discussion and Wrap-Up
The last session of the day was devoted to open discussion with contributions from
Dan & Adrian gave a short resume of the day, and thanked everyone for attending, as well as giving a vote of thanks for the helpfulness of the venue's staff. They then facilitated discussion focused on what attendees would like to see happen in future.
These were the suggestions noted down on the flip-chart:
- Regular / Annual events of this kind
- Themed workshops, covering areas such as:
- Content Management Systems
- installing Open Source Software/Linux
- Migration Issues
- Links with other organisations, e.g.:
- Linux User Groups
- formation of themed sub-groups / Special Interest Groups
There is a need for:
- Pragmatism
- Documentation:
- '''Case Studies - there is now a page on this wiki at CaseStudies for appropriate documentation or links that anyone can contribute
- an OSS Knowledgebase
- OSS links
- "How to's"
- Pilot Projects (with documentation)
These could examine areas such as:
- Support structures and models
- End User Education
- Identification of gaps and "killer applications"
- OSS Training
- an Infrastructure, instead of separate areas
- informal mechanisms of sharing knowledge and developing resources / peer support
- advocates directory/method of finding people & orgs interested in supporting OSS
- Wants & Offers - there is now a page on this wiki for that (WantsAndOffers)
