x-development aim to promote sustainable use of technology. Open Source Software (OSS) has advantages including:

  • reduced support burden for desk top and server as mature OSS tends to be more stable / reliable

  • freedom of choice

  • remote administration

  • reduced risk of viruses

  • more stable platform (esp for servers)

  • flexible support model - organisations can have more choice over what they pay to support.

Support options:

if organisation has internal tech person:

  • support company like x-development

  • go directly to vendor

  • go to open source community (e.g. Linux User Groups, online, mailing lists -- read the FAQ's before posting)
