Profile

Mark Taylor is a Lead Consultant with Sirius. An early and continuing contributor to a wide spectrum of Open Source development projects, Mark is actively working on wide-scale deployments of Open Source technologies in a variety of business environments.

Mark is also the founder of the Open Source Consortium in the UK. A consortium of over 60 of the countries leading Open Source businesses whos purpose is to bring Open Source technologies to the UK Government and Public Sector

Possible methods of support:

  • DIY -- Google and O'Reilly books

  • "Amateur" -- e.g. OS enthusiasts / advocates, Linux User Groups, Online, Mailing lists (research first -- check FAQ's before posting to Mailing lists) - will usually get an answer to your problem / issue pretty quickly and for free!

  • "Professional" -- two types:
1. "old school" -- e.g. proprietary vendors who will support their own software / operating system -- e.g. IBM

2. new -- emerging and established companies like Sirius, X- Development

The OSC will soon be launching a directory of established OSS support providers (http://preview.opensourceconsortium.org) will contain over 60 UK based OS consultancy and training companies.
